The poet Emily Dickinson lived all her life (1830 – 1886) in the small New England town of Amherst, Massachusetts. Yet from the large windows of her bedroom in the family Homestead, she observed a world as vast as her imagination, creating almost 1,800 poems, many of them now considered among the greatest in the English language. “I see New Englandly,” she wrote, alert to the drama of the weather, the spectacles of the northern sky, the lives and deaths of the people around her, the natural world she shared with plants and creatures, and also events far beyond the horizon of her native town.

Emily Dickinson visse tutta la sua vita (1830-1886) nella piccola cittadina di Amherst, Massachusetts. Dalla grande finestra della sua camera da letto, nella casa di famiglia a Homestead, osservava un mondo vasto quanto la sua immaginazione, creando almeno 1800 poesie, molte delle quali sono oggi considerate fra le più grandi scritte in lingua inglese. In "I see New Englandly", scrisse della drammaticità del tempo atmosferico, degli spettacoli dei cieli nordici, delle vite e delle morti delle persone che la circondavano, del mondo naturale che condivideva con piante e creature, e anche di eventi molto ben lontani dall'orizzonte della sua città natìa.
